Glutathione (GSH) is a tripeptide composed of glutamate, cysteine, and glycine (γ-L-glutamyl-L-cysteinyl-glycine) featuring an unusual gamma-peptide bond between the glutamate side chain and cysteine. As the most abundant low-molecular-weight thiol in mammalian cells, it serves as a central subject in redox biology research, participating in antioxidant defense, xenobiotic conjugation, and thiol-disulfide exchange chemistry.
